Your recommendations are in! The graph above illustrates which Oliver Stone films ranked highest among the Tumblr/Twitter crowd who responded to my inquiry.
This week I’ll be watching:
Salvador - A journalist, down on his luck in the US, drives to El Salvador to chronicle the events of the 1980 military dictatorship, including the assasination of Archbishop Oscar Romero
Any Given Sunday - A behind the scenes look at the life and death struggles of modern day gladiators- football players - and those who lead them
Platoon - A young recruit in Vietnam faces a moral crisis when confronted with the horrors of war and the duality of man
AGS and Platoon have been on my list for awhile now, but I was surprised by how many of you insisted I watch Salvador, a movie I haven’t heard too much about. I’ve seen my fair share of Oliver Stone films, including JFK, Wall Street, Natural Born Killers, etc., yet I’ve barely begun this project and I’m already seeing the benefits of looking deeper into a filmmaker’s filmography. I’m excited to watch all of these.
Look for my thoughts on these three films I-can’t-believe-I-haven’t-seen-yet on Monday!
