The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) opened their New Directors/New Films series with Amreeka, a film I posted about last night.  FSLC president Richard Pena followed the screening with a fascinating discussion with the film’s director Cherien Dabis, which I shot with a Flip Cam from my front row seat.

If you’re interested in the first-time filmmaking experience, getting started, shooting in global locations, casting, or selecting a soundtrack then you should watch this Q&A. I connected to Dabis’ story, but beyond that I saw a very smart filmmaker who captured her vision by looking to her Arab community for support, ultimately allowing her to share her story with expanded audiences.
