I’d rather walk…
Unlike a lot of people, I would rather walk than take a cab pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. I loathe, no HATE, a stronger and more appropriate word, taxi cabs. Love the movie, Taxi Driver, but not the actual vehicle. I have no patience for the constant stop and go rig-amoral and aggressive, hazardous driving. I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I don’t care. I’d rather take the subway or walk than resort to a cab. There are, however a few times when I’ll make the exception. I’ll only go the cab route if A. it’s for business purposes or B. if a friend has undoubtedly convinced me that it’s the quickest and easiest type of transportation. You’d be surprised at how often it’s not :)
Yesterday, I witnessed a horrible accident on my walk home from work that I’m sure happens more often in this city than I want to think about. I saw a guy actually get hit by a cab while he was walking across the street. I literally saw him fly up in the air and body surf across the cabbie’s hood. I couldn’t believe it. I called 911, along with all the other witnesses, and within moments an ambulance was on the scene. I think he’s gonna be okay based on his state following the accident, but gosh what a scary thing. I suppose horrible things are bound to happen no matter what you do, be it walk or drive.
