I’ve been waiting months for just-the-right climate and finally, Mother Nature delivered. After navigating a three-hour walking tour of the Westside with Elle, my roommates and I decided to tackle the beast known as our backyard. The time had come to clean up what had become a daunting amalgam of weeds, ivy, dead leaves, rocks, twigs and random junk. We began by scouring our overgrown tiered landscape to gather any sort of poppycock that may have blown over only to learn a little bit more about the apartment tenants above. We found a shoe, three full bottles of Stella Artois, busted Budweiser cans, two window screens, a box cutter, a cigarette lighter, a frisbee, and three rusty paint cans. I know throwing junk out the window is easier than tossing it in the trash can, but c’mon, really?!  Once we cleared out the rubbish, we began grooming the ivy, pulling out weeds and raking the debris. It felt good to get my hands dirty. We still have a lot to do, so I’m not going to post the after picture quite yet, but in the meantime here’s a picture of the mess that is our backyard.
