Vacation: the final hours countdown
Yep, and I’m blogging. Ha! No, my intention here is not to spend my final hours in LA Tumbling, but I did want to say a quick hello! Besides, it’s uncomfortably hot outside and after spending more than 64 hours in the blazing desert, I need to spend some time indoors!
Now, to my next point- Coachella!!!! It was such an exhaustingly fun, flaming hot (literally 102 degrees) musical experience that catered to an audience of full-on hippies, gypsies and hipsters abiding to their American Apparel generation. It was intense and it was colorful, and although I walked around in awe of some of the, let’s just call them “free-spirits,” I had a good time and left with a broadened music appetite and a nice tan ;)
In total, I saw and heard 38 bands over the course of three days. Including: Hot Chip, Cut Copy, Black Kids, Architecture in Helsinki, Goldfrapp, Sia, The National, The Raconteurs, Prince, The Verve, Holy F*ck, DeVotchKa, Vampire Weekend, Rogue Wave, M.I.A., Mark Ronson, Minus the Bear, Justice, Chromeo, Simian Mobile Disco, Tegan and Sara, Jens Lekman, Portishead, Kate Nash, Duffy, Cold War Kids, Death Cab for Cutie, Metric, Autolux, Erol Alkan, Rilo Kiley, Stars, Man Man, MGMT, The Bird and the Bee, Gogol Bordello, My Morning Jacket and Modeselektor
The highlights by far were Hot Chip, Prince, Cut Copy, Justice and Sia. Out of all the bands I saw I thought that these really delivered the whole package which to me includes defining style, flawless sound and a stage presense that’s playful and works with the energy of the crowd. These bands most certainly delivered on all three. Some of the bigger disappointments were Vampire Weekend and Duffy based on performance alone. I just couldn’t get into it, even though I’m a fan of some of their work.
Anyway, I have much more to say, but I’m off to dinner and another hike in Griffith Park! More to come!
