Every time I visit Spring, one of my favorite art & design stores in DUMBO, I contemplate purchasing a Holga camera. Honestly, I’m not sure what was holding me back before, but today I finally got my hands on one and I plan on becoming a Holga pro this summer! Don’t be deceived by the toy-ish look of this camera. It is made of plastic, but with some practice, I’m hoping it will help me become a better photographer.  The Holga was created in China in the 80s with the intension to provide an inexpensive mass-market camera for working-class Chinese in order to record family portraits and events. It soon became popular among Western photographers for capturing surrealistic, impressionistic scenes for landscape, still life, portrait and street photography. I’m starting my Holga training tomorrow weather permitting, of course.
