Paul Newman added richness to early Hollywood cinema with his piercing blue eyes and leading male roles, but there’s something to be said about a legacy that offers much more than what we all saw on screen. He was a remarkable person who led a purposeful life filled with loyalty and love for his family, philanthrophy, the race track and the list goes on.
Years ago, I escorted him to “his table” when I was working as hostess at a one of the nicer restaurants along the waterfront in Portland, OR. Apparently, he visited Portland every year for the PDX Races and stopped by our restaurant every time he made the trip. It was a brief encounter, but he was kind and engaged in conversation, and as a young gal obsessed with film, it was a memorable moment for me. I’ve always been a fan of his work - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and The Color of Money are a few favs of mine. He will be missed.
