NYT: A Warm Front Around the Corner
NYT’s Frank Bruni hits the nail on the head with his recent review of Market Table. He describes the restaurant as warm, soothing, humble, unambiguous and generous, and it’s for all these reasons that he predicts it will be one of the few restaurants that will thrive among current economic angst.
I have to agree with him on this one. A couple of weeks ago, Sarah and I had a late brunch at Market Table after quickly nixing the idea of waiting an hour for a table at Public. As soon as I walked in the door, I noticed the energy in the room and it immediately put me in a happy place. It truly is all those five things that Bruni describes - the atmosphere paired with fresh, flavorful food feels euphoric and comforting. I enjoyed it so much that I will be there Thanksgiving Day to partake in their special tasting menu.
The only thing I opposed about the place was the $7 I paid for a small shot glass of fresh squeezed orange juice - yeah, that was lame. Regardless, I definitely plan on spending more weekend afternoons in such a cozy place.
