While in SF I started reading The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film… I’m in the process of learning the technical aspects of editing, but I’m also finding myself drawn into the artistic ways the story comes to life through editing - everything you see in film is generally shown a particular way for a reason. The same goes with writing and the finished novel - content, subtleties, etc. all have been cut and fine-tuned to create a particular experience. It really is an art form.
Walter Murch was a collaborator in Zoetrope Productions with Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas fresh out of film school and so far, I’m fascinated by all their stories from the early years.
I’m not going to “officially” recommend this book until I’ve finished it, but if you have any interest in film, I will say that the recommendation is looking good.
